This is a terra cotta figurine from ancient Sumer. She represents fertility.
Birth rates all over the world are falling or are already too low for survivial. There is intense prejudice against marrying kin. However if we do not resume marrying kin the brith rate will never recover.
The science is still unfolding. This is research not advice. M. Linton Herbert MD

Genetics, fertility and population size.
More important even than overpopulation, deteriorating environment and exhausted resources is that fact that rich societies do not have a birth rate high enough for long term survival, “aging population.” What I have found is that the cause is genetic. Just as a population that is too small will die out from inbreeding, so a population that randomly mates and is too large will die out from the opposite of inbreeding. Modern society is urbanized, meaning an effective population size that is too large for adequate fertility.

I have no idea what that is all about. I have not tried clicking it. I have no idea why you should want to do so either, so if you trust this web site, don't. By the way, the "save as a web page" function seems to be acting odd, too, which may affect my ability to show you the more elaborate secret messages when we get there. LH)

BACK TO SCIENCE. The computer has still not come back from the repair shop, so we are in a state of less than modest array. Computers among other things keep track of stuff. Not only are we missing files, but it is not clear just what is missing. I had intended to go on with letters until they were done, but the number of letters pending has been increasing. Of course from an educational standpoint the straight science artilces are more important, so I am going to post them and go back to letters later. The story I was telling will have to wait for some time. This first science article is not a very heay one, just sort of light hearted. Don't take it very seriously. After all, the chubacabra really doesn't exist. Better stuff is on the way.

CHAT ROOM. Last updated January 22, 2010. (I do not recommend the chat room. It has never been used and I now think it doesn't work. So email me at info@nobabies.net.)
If you are really enjoying this and are interested in hisory, visit Wildsurmises.com, and you can read some of what I did for the Vietnam veterans many years ago along with some things that are less serious. The movies are no longer there, but some of the essays and stories are.
There is a story out that bloggers need to say if they have any financial interest in things they recommend on the internet. I frequently cite references, and when I do I think you ought to read them yourself no matter how critical I might be of some of them. This topic is that important. And I have no financial interest at all in them. I am entirely on my own.
